Yvonne Adeline Wernet

Yvonne Adeline Wernet, Holyoke, Colorado, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at age 91.  The funeral service will be held Friday, June 21 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke.  Interment will take place at IOOF Cemetery in Golconda, Illinois at a later date.

Yvonne was born on July 5, 1932 near Blue Hill, Nebraska, to Martin and Hattie Meinte.  She was baptized in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill and attended parochial school there. She then attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Amherst, Colorado through 8th grade and was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended Holyoke High School, graduating in 1949. Following graduation, Yvonne worked at Holyoke ASCS until marrying Ray Leben in 1953. To this union, three children were born. Ray and Yvonne moved to Golconda, Illinois, in 1973, where Ray farmed and Yvonne ran the La Boutique department store and worked at Country Companies in Golconda.

Yvonne returned to Holyoke in 1990, following Ray’s death in 1984 and was employed at Community Insurance Company.

Yvonne married Boyce Wernet in 2002 and added three children to their union. They were happily married 21 years.

Active participation in church life was important to Yvonne.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Women of Zion. She served as communications representative for Bethesda Lutheran Homes and was a 26-year member of the Colorado Unit of Bethesda Auxiliary, serving in every office of the organization. Sharing the love of Jesus with people was her greatest passion.

Survivors include her husband, Boyce, of Holyoke, CO, two daughters, Gail (Steve) Spies of Muscatine, Iowa, and Lisa Leben of Central City, CO; daughter-in-law Leanna Leben of Marion, IL, sons Ty (Patty) Wernet and Dolan (Julie) Wernet of Marysville, WA, son-in-law Brad Bradford of Holyoke, CO; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren,

Preceding her in death include husband Ray Leben, son Craig Leben, daughter Londa Bradford, and brothers Vernell Meinte, Duane Meinte, and Keith Meinte.

Memorials may be made to the Orphan Grain Train or Bethesda Angel Tree.
