Vickie Arlene (Holman) True

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vickie Arlene True who was born on May 14, 1950, in Salida, Colorado, to Winnie Joe Holman and Helen Mae (Criswell) Poyser.  She passed away October 19, 2023, with family and friends by her side at the age of 73.

Vickie was raised in Salida and Fowler, Colorado, before moving to Wray, Colorado in 1973.

On March 08, 1969, she married the love of her life, Luis and from this union two children were born, Lori Ann and James Patrick "JP".  She was a loving Spouse, Mother, Aunt and Friend.  Vickie loved watching her husband team rope, reading, playing cards/board games, watching her Denver Broncos (which may have included running down the field with them in her living room)(lol) and spending time with family and friends.

Throughout the years Vickie was heavily involved with timing for ropings, starting and overseeing the JP True Scholarship with Luis, and worked as a Secretary/Bookkeeper for forty plus years.

Sixteen years ago Vickie was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, life expectancy was four years, she never complained or wanted any sympathy.  While the last few years it was hard to watch her battle, we were all blessed with the extra time we got with her.

Vickie was a loving wife, mother, aunt and friend who devoted her life to the well being of her family.  Her love for her husband, Luis, was a shinning example of a life-long partnership filled with warmth and affection.  She leaves behind a legacy of love. Vickie's memory will be deeply missed but her spirit will endure in the love and memories she leaves behind. Vickie touched so many people, her spirit will live among them forever!

Vickie was preceded in death by her father Winnie Joe Holman, mother Helen Mae (Criswell) Poyser, step-father James Frederick Poyser, step-mother Opal Holman, and son James Patrick "JP" True.

She is survived by her husband Luis True of 54 years, daughter Lori True, brother Winnie (Mary) Holman, step sister Tammy (Jay) Smith as well as numerous other family members and friends, all of whom she loved deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eckley Community Center in Eckley, Colorado on Monday October 30, 2023, at 10:00am.  Inurnment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado following the Celebration. Memorials may be made to the JP True Scholarship, 36501 County Road T, Eckley, Colorado 80727.  Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
