Verna Lou Boyes

Verna Lou (Hamilton) Boyes was born February 10, 1928 to her parents, Francis Marguerite (Roberts) and Paul Hamilton in Wray, Colorado. Verna Lou Boyes was a resident of Wray Colorado for many years.
Verna Lou graduated from Wray High School in 1946. She married Claude F. Boyes on June 1, 1947 in St. Francis Kansas and to this union they had 3 children David, Melody, and Jeff Boyes.
She loved to spend her time helping in the healthcare field working as a nurse’s aide. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Boneame Women's Club.
Verna Lou was a loving and generous woman who loved nothing more than when her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren would come to visit her.
She was full of kindness and showered that kindness on all who she came in contact with. As her family can attest to, her greatest joy would be to sit for hours and play Skipbo. She had a competitive spirit. To play her at Skipbo meant she was playing to win, regardless of your age or skill level. Which is also why she wouldn't go play bingo because, "everybody won and that just wasn't right."
Before she passed, Verna Lou made sure everyone would feel comforted by saying she wasn't afraid because of her great love and belief that she was going to be with her lord.
She passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Hillcrest Care Facility due to declining health. She had just celebrated her 87th birthday surrounded by friends.
She is survived by her children; David (Jeri) Boyes, Melody (Danny) Cumley and Jeff (Renee) Boyes, grandchildren, Mike Boyes, Michelle Stelzer, Kevin and Casey Cumley, Sandra and Ria Boyes and great-grandchildren, Aidan, Sean, Brittany, Elizabeth, Sara, Jasz, and Erik. Verna Lou was loved by all her grandchildren and cherished being a great grandmother.
Verna Lou was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Claude on June 9, 1981 and two brothers, Billy and Bobby (gooch). Verna Lou will be deeply missed by her family.
Funeral services were held at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado, Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Glen Kline officiating. Interment will be held in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Schmidt – Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
