Steve E. Yost was born December 16, 1946 to Lawrence and Jessie (Veal) Yost in Wray, Colorado. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Joes, Colorado on September 30, 2017.
He grew up in the Idalia and Wray area. At an early age he knew what hard work was taking pride in all of his jobs. In 1969, when he was employed for Climatic Irrigation he spent two months in Israel putting up sprinkler systems.
He married Joyce Shively, June 22, 1969 and to this union one son, Brian was born in December 1972. They lived in Wray a couple of years after they married then to Sterling, then Joes.
In 1978, he went to work for Colorado Department of Transportation in Joes, where he spent the next 30 years. He was a member of the Antique Tractor Club, where he spent many hours getting ready for tractor pulls. He won many trophies with his tractors and looked forward to it. He was on the Joes Fire Department and was chief for many years. After retirement, he spent many hours in his yard taking great pride in it. He always looked forward to family get togethers and spending time with his two grandchildren, Jessa and Matt.
Steve was proceeded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Jessie Yost; brother, Wayne Yost & sister-in-law, June Yost; brother, Dean Yost & sister-in-law, Mary Yost; mother-in-law, Josie Shively McCoy.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 48 years; son, Brian Yost & wife, Lysondra; grandchildren, Matt & Jessa Yost; nephews, Allen Yost and Randy Yost and a host of cousins. He will sadly be missed by family & friends.
A Memorial Graveside Service and Inurnment will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Cremation was requested.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017, 1:00 p.m. at the Grassroots Community Building, 6671 U.S. Hwy. 36, Joes, Colorado with Jack Stout officiating.
Memorials may be given in Steve’s name to the Grassroots Community Building, 6671 U.S. Hwy. 36, Joes, Colorado 80822. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
