Ruby Coriene Mann, age 83, of Chambers, Nebraska, formerly of Kirk, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Care Center, in Atkinson, Nebraska. She was born on October 24, 1931, in rural Kit Carson County, near Bethune, Colorado.
At the age of 6, her mother passed away due to complications of child birth. Feeling unable to care for the needs of 5 young children, her father made arrangements for close family members to raise them. Ruby and her sister, Thelma, were sent to live with Uncle Fay and Aunt Myrtle Holstein and family in Stratton, Colorado. To ensure the children remembered each other and their father, a yearly reunion was held. When Ruby was around 14 years old, her father died.
The family lived at Stratton while Ruby attended elementary and middle school. They then moved to Kirk so Uncle Fay could manage the grocery store. Ruby helped out by clerking and stocking shelves as she attended high school where she met and became high school sweethearts with her future husband, Raymond Mann. They were married March 20th, 1950. To the union, 5 children were born: Carol (1950), Kenneth (1952), Karen (1955), Kendra (1958), and Kellie Jo (1963) .

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Cora Yelek; her second parents, Fay and Myrtle Holstein; her husband, Raymond Mann; her son, Kenneth Mann; her sister, Frances Gray and husband, Bob; sister Sara Sutton and husband, Frank; and sister Thelma Tweedy.

Memorials will be to cancer research and the Idalia School Library as she loved to hear about the children loving books.
