Ronald Wayne Baker was born to Lester R. Baker and Nellie A. Baker on October 14, 1951 in Wray, CO. He passed away after a brief illness on January 30, 2016 at Northern Colorado Medical Center-Hospice unit in Greeley, CO at the age of 64.
He married Kathy (Engel) Thomason at age 18. They had two sons together; Lester Ronald Baker and Edward Jabe Baker of Wray.
Ron served for a time in the Army in the Dental Core. He later took a civilian job that ended that service. He moved away for some years only to return to Wray over 30 years ago.
Ron was a police officer for 18 years for the City of Wray, as well as working as an EMT and as a Sheriff Posse'. He also owned the first Slick Spot in Wray for a time before selling it and beginning his job with Yuma County Road and Bridge. He was close to retiring before he developed the health issues that ended his life with us.
He married 2 more times upon moving back to Wray before meeting and marrying his current wife Laura (Amos) Baker. They were the best of friends. They were married in Sturgis during bike week in August of 2011.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors very much and participated frequently over the years in such activities as all types of hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycle rides, demolition race car driving, as well as billiards. He enjoyed these activities with his family and friends very much.
Preceding Ron in death, are his parents; both sets of grandparents and an older brother that was deceased in the early days of life.
Ron is survived by his wife of 4 1/2 years; his oldest son, Lester Baker and son, Jabe Baker as well as Jabe's wife, Amber and their two children: Aidan Jabe Baker and Mackenlie Marie Baker. He is also survived by granddaughter, Nicole Baker and great grandson, Christopher. Ron is survived by step-daughter, Heather (Stephens) Pottorf and husband, Brett and 3 boys of Montana, as well as stepson, Joshua Stephens of Colorado. His sister, Norma Jean Martin and Aunt Fern Sigwing also still live here in Wray.
Services are to be held at the First Christian Church in Wray at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 with Rev. Steve Wynkoop officiating. Inurnment will be set for a later date for family and close friends at Grandview Cemetery in Wray.
