Roberta "Birdie" G. (Texter) Fix

Roberta G. Fix was the youngest of three children, born September 22, 1956 to Raymond Milton and Eudora Mae (Finley) Texter in Brooklyn, New York. She passed away on February 2, 2018 peacefully at their home from a short battle of cancer that she fought bravely.

Birdie and her brothers came to live in Wray, Colorado with family when she was seven years old. She attended Wray schools and graduated with the Class of 1974.

She met Bob while working at Frosty King Drive-In. Robert W. Fix and Birdie were married on September 9, 1978 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wray, Colorado.

Known by family and friends as “Birdie”, she was not afraid of work and she played just as hard as she worked. She worked at Frosty King, Wray Community Hospital, Chuck Adamson’s mowing service, Yuma Co. Sheriff’s office and for Co-op. After leaving Co-op, she worked on the farm alongside of Bob.

Birdie was one of a kind person who had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone and asked for nothing in return. Birdie was a natural caretaker of many people in our community and was a true friend. She loved a good book and of course, warm water and being on the beach. Traveling and kayaking were her most treasured and memorable times in her life. Birdie’s greatest love was her bird and her cats. Spending time with friends, shopping in thrift stores and finding new found treasures was another one of her favorite past times.

Birdie is survived by her husband, Robert W. Fix; brothers, Raymond Texter and Bruce Texter; and grandchildren, Maryse, Anthony and Robbie Schafer.

She is preceded by her parents, father & mother-in-law and several other family members.

A Rosary was held at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jonathan Dellinger officiating. Interment was held in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of the Plains, P.O. Box 365, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
