Richard L. Byers passed away December 10, 2013 in Colorado Springs.  He was born at Grover Hospital in Grover May 24, 1937 to Raymond Lynn Byers and Ila June (Small) Byers. the oldest of two children.

After high school he worked for the Jack Mason Ranch at Hereford. He joined the Army in 1960 and spent his service in Germany. After the service Dick went back to his love of being a cowboy and worked in Jackson Hole, WY on the Oliver Ranch. He then drove a truck doing concrete work out of Ft. Collins. He then worked for Harvest-ORS traveling the country helping to build grain storage bins. Then again back to the country life, he worked for Ceres Land Co. from Laird.

In 1970, Dick married Millie Pevlor who had a son, Terry and daughter, Tanna from a previous marriage. Patricia Lynn was born to this union in 1972. The union dissolved in 1994.

Dick once again fell in love and married Wanda Henderson in 1998. She passed away in 2004 to Lou Gehrig disease.

In 2005, Dick married Jo Ann Reiss and brought her to Wray to live. They both loved to dance, laugh and have a good time with people. He never knew a stranger, was always ready to tell a joke and was full of BS. He was Exalted Ruler at the Elks a number of times. He hosted the single dances every month at the Elks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, half sister, Clera Speaker and Wanda. Dick is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, daughter, Pati (James) Krehmeyer, grandson, Kobe, sister, Betty (Ken) Krickbaum, stepson, Matt (Christal) Reiss, step grandson, Brandon Reiss, David and Kim Henderson, Jim and Donna Henderson and Ron Henderson and several nephews and nieces.

Dick was my love and my best friend. He will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 14, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Rev. Norman Stott officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be held in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley, Colorado. Memorials may be made to Macular Degeneration Association.  Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
