Ralph Raymond Weyerman was born on August 19, 1933, at Doc Garcia’s hospital in Idalia, Colorado. He was the second child of Fred and Martha Weyerman. On February 13, 2021, at the age of 87, Ralph went home to be with the Lord.
Ralph grew up at the family homestead south of Idalia. He attended school at the Newton School until 9 th grade at which time he attended Idalia High School. Ralph was baptized, confirmed and a lifetime member of St. John Church in Idalia. Ralph served in the army from 1954 to 1956.
Ralph met his wife, Beverly in Denver, Colorado where she was enrolled in nursing school. They were married on May 11, 1957 in Taos, New Mexico. They were blessed with four children; Larry, Susan, Wayne and Sharon.
Ralph was a founding member of Idalia Lions Club, a founding member of the Idalia EMT Service and a member of the Elks Lodge. He studied and became an EMT in 1983. Ralph and Beverly purchased the Prairie Vista Motel and Restaurant in October 1999. They lived on the family farm and ranch until 2002 when they moved into Idalia, CO.
Ralph enjoyed life on the farm and ranch. He enjoyed having the cattle, driving combine and putting up hay. Summers were filled with long hours; often times helping neighbors and exchanging work with one another, but they always made time to go see friends on Saturday nights or a card party on a Sunday night.
Ralph had his first stroke in 2007, at which time he lost part of his vision. Macular degeneration followed. There came a time when Ralph could no longer drive, and his eyesight continued to diminish. The Prairie Vista was his saving grace. Ralph began to sit at the table with all the men towards the back of the restaurant but soon decided he would rather be at the first table in the front of the café. He found great joy in being able to greet and talk with everyone who came into the restaurant. He did not know a stranger.
Being a grandfather and great grandfather was one of Ralph’s greatest joys. He loved having his grandchildren or great grandchildren stop by and fill him in on the latest happenings. He wanted to know how they were doing and the most current updates. He loved going to the ballgames even when it was difficult for him to see.
Ralph was always worried about others and wanted to lend a helping hand in whatever way he could. Family and friends were so important to him.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Martha Weyerman and brother-in-law Dwite Barnett. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Weyerman and four children: Larry Weyerman and wife Cyndie, Susan Richards and husband Donald, Wayne Weyerman and wife Denise, Sharon Warren and husband Mike.
