Patty Jean (Monk) Spellman

Patty J. (Monk) Spellman was born in Wray August 29, 1944 to Dallas Albert “Bert” and Jenny (Oman) Monk. Patty passed away July 17, 2019 at Pullman Memorial Hospital in Pullman, Washington at the age of 74.

Patty attended the Yuma School District through her high school graduation. During her young years, Patty cared for her grandmother. This experience was to provide Patty with skills she was to use later in her life.

Bob Spellman and Patty married August 22, 1965. This union was to last 53 years and provide her and Bob four children: Mary, Dallas, Roger and Howard. Patty and Bob began their married life in the Pleasant Valley area where Patty had been raised.

The family continued living in this area throughout their marriage. Patty was a devoted wife and mother making school lunches for all her children year after year. She excelled during fair time. She entered embroidery and fine needlework, garden produce, canned goods, baked goods and any item she had the skills to create, including photography.

Preceding Patty in death was her parents, Bert and Jenny Monk; sister-in-law, Nancy Monk; parent-in-laws, Bud and Lois Spellman, sister-in-law, Sharon Spellman; brothers-in-law, Cleo Brown, Clifford Schmidt and Chuck Schmidt.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary of Yuma, CO; sons, Dallas & wife, Pat of Moscow, ID; Roger & wife Trisha of Lincoln, NE; and Howard of Yuma, CO; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren; brother, Marion Monk & wife, Carol of Richardson, TX; brothers-in-law, George Spellman & wife, Lois of Kirk; Ralph Spellman & wife, Leann; Tom Spellman & wife, Margaret both of Yuma, CO; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schmidt and Peggy Spellman both of Wray, CO; Jennie Brown of Yuma; Minnie Schmidt of Haxtun; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

A Viewing/Visitation was held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at the Yuma United Methodist Church in Yuma, Colorado on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jaime Neives officiating. Interment followed the services in the Yuma, Cemetery in Yuma, Colorado.
