Patricia Jeanette Wood

May 21, 1936 — December 26, 2024

Wray

Patricia Jeanette Gillett Wood went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 4 pm and passed peacefully at her home.

Patricia Jeanette Gillett Wood was born on May 21, 1936 to Lester and Edna Donovan Gillett in the farmhouse at Vernon, Colorado. Patty was the middle child of three. The only girl between two boys, so she had to learn to hold her own. She attended school in a one room school house, Radnor 104, north of Vernon, and received her 8th grade diploma in 1950. Eventually, Radnor closed, and Patty then attended school at the Yuma County High School System, currently known as Wray Schools, and graduated on Thursday, May 20th, 1954.

Two years after graduating high school she met the love of her life, Donald G. Wood. They were married in the Wray United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 6, 1956. They resided on a small farm they rented where Patty took care of the farm while Don worked on the harvest crews. Patty took care of milking and feeding cows and caring for the other animals as well as eventually caring for two young boys.

Patty and Don had two sons. Toby Jon was born August 28, 1958 and then Christopher Dale came a short 14 months later, on October 15, 1959. The boys were Patty's pride and joy and you didn't mess with her boys and if you did, you had to answer directly to her. Eventually, Patty and Don moved to town, to the well known pink house on Grove street in 1960.

Patty had many jobs in the Wray community. She was a bank teller at the First National Bank, a bookkeeper at the Conoco Station that her husband Don owned, and the job where many of us met her or really got to know her and how big her heart was, when she was a nurses aide/ward clerk at the Wray Community District Hospital where she worked a total of 40 years.

Patty still found time to enjoy life as well. She liked to sew and cook. She loved to explore her family ancestry and put together may binders of amazing family history for her family to enjoy. She was addicted to NCIS and you knew not to call her on Tuesday nights at 7 pm while she was watching her show. Eventually, Patty got a computer and loved to construct/type letters to the best of her ability and man did she love to play solitaire. If you ever stopped by to visit, you could find her at her computer playing solitaire and listening, even possibly singing, to Alan Jackson or Sing Along Songs for Kids. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to sing to them or with them, songs like Animal Fair, Goose Drank Wine, and Bill Groghan's Goat to name a few, and rock them to sleep singing Hush Little Baby. They were her most enjoyable and precious gifts from God.

Patty is proceeded in death by her parents Lester and Edna Gillet, husband Don, son Toby, brother Hollis, great grandson Brodrick, and nieces Rhiannon, Terri, and Cindy.

Those who still live on with her memory include son Christopher and wife Kathy. Daughter-in-law Patti Jo. Granddaughter Heather and great grandchildren Austin and Kitsyn. Granddaughter Keira and husband Ryan. Granddaughter Cheyenne, boyfriend Russ, and granddaughters Autumn and Aspen. Brother Gary and wife Sally. Sister-in-law Pearline. Nephew Michael. Nephew Aaron, wife Nichelle, great niece Madason, and great nephews Matthew and Mason. Great nephew Kevin. Great nieces Jorian, Mahala, Charity, Crystal, and Heather. Along with many close friends and extended family.
