Patricia L Clouse

d. August 21, 2011

Patricia Louise Andes was born in Independence, Missouri on May 7, 1936 to Loy Darold Andes and Hazel Mae Howe Andes and passed peacefully from this life on August 17, 2011 at Wray Community District Hospital.Loy, Hazel, big sister Moreen Joyce, and Patty Lou lived in Independence until Patty was in the 5tI grade. Patty was baptized when she was eight years old in the RLDS church, and grew into a quiet and steadfast faith. When Patty was in 5th grade, the family moved to Burlington, Colorado. At Burlington Elementary School, Patty met a boy named Bob Clouse who, upon seeing her with her black ponytails, yellow ribbons in her hair, and big brown eyes proclaimed to all of the other boys, “Stay away from her, boys, I’m going to marry her!” From then on, even though Patty disappeared to Independence periodically, everyone knew Patty and Bob would always be a pair. During Patty’s visits to Burlington, one of the young couple’s main haunts was the Burlington Roller Rink where they were the best dancing pair on roller skates. When Bob graduated from high school in May of 1954, Patty was again in Independence. Bob convinced his parents to allow him to go to television school in Independence, all with one goal in mind: getting Patty. And he did. 1955 was a big year, as Patty and Bob opened their first bakery in Kansas City called Clouse’s Bakery, and became engaged to be married.Patty and Bob were married on May 29, 1955 at the RLDS Liberty Street Church in Independence, Missouri. A year later they moved back to Burlington, working in the Burlington Bakery for a short time. In 1957, Patty found her true calling as the most precious, giving, loving, amazing mother anyone could have when Patty and Bob welcomed their first daughter Deriece Lynn, followed by David William in August 1958, Moreen Joyce in 1962, and the icing on the cake, her brown-eyed baby boy, Loy Darrold, in 1963. Throughout the years in Burlington, the Clouse clan was joined periodically by the Busby kids; Rhonda Kay, Bobby, and Jackie. They were a part of the household, and shared in many of the childhood memories. The early years of the Clouse family were spent on Cherry Street in Burlington where Patty did everything from sewing clothing, curtains, and furniture coverings to canning cherries, running cement, and in general renovating everything. During this time, Patty learned to decorate cakes, a skill which she ultimately used to make beautiful cakes for people in Burlington and Wray over the years. One of the hihlights of Patty’s life was moving the family into a brand new home in Burlington at 945 1 4t Street in 1965. The skills she had learned at the Cherry Street house, she mastered and added to in the new house. She laid floors, did electrical wiring, and babysat anywhere from 8-10 children in her home every day while running her own four in perfect balance as a stay at home mom. Even to the end of her life, she took great pride in everything she accomplished and did during those years. In 1970, Patty and Bob purchased the Wray Bakery, and a new chapter began in the Clouse family’s story. Patty used her talents and skills of renovation to transform the Wray Bakery into a delightful coffee shop that became the central meeting place for the citizens of Wray for many years. In 1979, Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer and in 1980, with rheumatoid arthritis. This unexpected and difficult turn in her journey served to strengthen her resolve to enjoy life. It also led to the next joy of her life: flying. In 1980, after Patty received news that she was in remission from cancer, Patty and Bob got their pilot’s licenses. They flew a 140 Cherokee named Scooter until 1989.Grandbabies started showing up with the appearance of Anne Rebecca in 1980, and thirty years later, there are 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her four children, Patty’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. As “Granda”,she spent countless hours showering them with gifts and goodies, but more importantly, love beyond measure. The Wray Bakery closed in 1988, and Patty and Bob went on the road on the gun show circuit. From that time on, they were inseparable. To see one without the other was a rarity. In 1991 they opened Bob and Patty’s Used Cars where Patty was the general manager and book keeper, adding to her skill set. In addition to these responsibilities, Patty was the head of PR for the company. PR took the form of thousands of cards containing “sprinkles” that spilled out onto the laps of unsuspecting customers, friends, neighbors, and family up until as recently as Spring 2011. These cards were received by people near and far for occasions ranging from birthdays and anniversaries to new babies and graduations.Since losing her beloved husband last August, Patty has devoted herself to embroidering quilt tops for the four newest great-grandchildren, born since 2009, as well as one quilt top for a great-grandbaby who she is sure will arrive in the future. She finished the last quilt for baby Sophie about six weeks ago, and having her work completed, began to rest and finally went to join Jesus and her husband. A job well done, indeed.Patty is preceded in death by her father Loy Andes, mother Hazel Andes, sister Moreen Hamline, mother-in-law Gladys Clouse, father-in-law Harold Clouse, Aunt Velma Jacobsen, nephew Bob Busby, Jr., and a host of customers, associates, and friends.Patty is survived by children Deriece Lynn Amos and husband Dick, David Clouse and wife Gail of Denver, Moreen Weaver and husband Robert of Grand Junction, and Loy Clouse and wife Anna of Guam and Michigan. Grand children Annie Clouse of Sterling, Misty Rousselle and husband Darin of Sterling, Willie Clouse of Sterling, Tessa Oestman and husband Eric, Jake Clouse of Sterling, Ashlie Celis and husband Antonio of Grand Junction, Thomas Barnett and wife Kara of Fort Collins, Krystal Tigar and husband Kyle of Grand Junction, Luke Clouse of Sterling, Dakota McGee, Cannon Clouse, and Avery Clouse of Michigan. Great grandchildren Owen Schafer, Cody Clouse, Beau Clouse, Jaxon Tigar, Halle Oestman, Hannah Celis, Eleura Clouse, and Sophie Lee Tigar. Niece Rhonda Kay Alteri of Independence, Jacky Busby and wife Deb of Independence, and her dearly loved collie, Brinkley.
