Patricia Joann Chapman

November 23, 1940 — July 26, 2023

Patricia Joann Chapman was born November 23, 1940 to George and Eleanor Agatha (Harmer) Hood in North Platte, Nebraska. She passed away July 26th, 2023 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado at the age of 82.

Pat grew up in rural North Platte and attended a country school through 8th grade before transferring to St. Patrick high school in North Platte, graduating in May 1958.

In 1959 she married Ken Highberger and four children were born to this union: Marty, Toni, Jeff and Justin (Shane). After marrying they moved to Julesburg where she worked at the hospital then got a job as the assistant district court clerk where she worked until moving to Haxtun, Colorado where they owned and operated a hog farm. She also was a waitress in the evenings. In 1974 they moved to Wray where she resided until her death. She worked for a short time at the Yuma County Abstract office before becoming a district court clerk where she presided for 25 years. She also worked evenings at the Sandhiller Restaurant.

In 1984 she married Billy Chapman. They enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel and boat and going fishing. They also had a cabin at Red Feather lake and liked going up there. One of her favorite things to do was play the penny slots in Black Hawk, always leaving a winner. She liked scrapbooking, reading, watching the game show network and insp tv, as well as baking cookies and making peanut brittle and peanut clusters for friends and family at Christmas time. She enjoyed having coffee with the ladies and playing cards with them. She especially loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy Chapman, brother Don Hood, sister Alice Sukraw and niece Paula Bush. She is survived by her children Marty (Carla) Highberger of Maxwell, NE, Toni (Rick) Swanson of Rye, Co. Jeff (Sandy) Highberger of Wray, Justin Shane (Kathy) Highberger of Fort Morgan, Co, and stepchildren Deanyce and Dave Chapman of Spokane, WA, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Rosary was held at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wray, Colorado on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Wray, Colorado on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Felicien Mbala officiating. Cremation was requested.

Memorials may be made to the St. Andrew Catholic Church, 412 Dexter Street, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
