Myron Herbert Weed, Jr.

May 2, 1934 — April 3, 2018

Myron Herbert Weed, Jr. was born May 2, 1934 in Haigler, Nebraska to Myron Herbert Weed, Sr. and Edna (Wheaton) Weed. Herb was one of five children: Darla “May” (Weed) Rose, Lunettie “Sister” (Weed) Juranek, Eileen Weed, and Walter Weed.

He grew up near Laird, Colorado where he attended school. Throughout his school years, Herb played basketball and football. He was well-known as a small, mischievous kid. Frequently, he would start fights and somehow convince the bigger kids to finish the fights for him. Herb graduated in 1951 as one of nine students in the Laird Senior Class. After graduating, Herb worked throughout the Midwest in various jobs, including a ranch hand and a seismic surveyor.

On October 8, 1960, Herb was united in marriage to Doris (Bandel) Weed at the Cheyenne County Courthouse in St. Francis, Kansas. They had five children: Robert, Valerie, Joey, Preston and Sandy. From these children they were blessed with 17 grandkids and 34 great-grandkids. The family moved to Wray, Colorado where Herb worked at Great Plains Cooperative for 30 years from 1969 -1999.

Once retired, Herb enjoyed time spent at the sale barn, caring for his cattle, helping local farmers, and spending time with his family. Herb was also an active Colorado sports fan enjoying the local teams, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche. Another favorite of Herb’s was time spent outdoors. Doris and Herb spent many Colorado nights on their front porch listening to the radio as the bug zapper buzzed, and toads and crickets sang out in the background.

Herb was preceded in death by her parents, Herb, Sr. and Edna, brother, Walter, and his sisters, May and Eileen.
