M. Marie (Gerber) Weyerman

Minnie Marie Weyerman was born on February 8, 1922 at Idalia, Colorado to William F. and Jennie (Anderson) Gerber. She passed away February 9, 2016 at the age of 94 at Hillcrest Care Center.

Marie attended Idalia schools, graduating in 1940. As a young girl she helped on the family farm where her life-long love of horses and animals began and she rode her horse to school for many years.

Marie married Jerry Weyerman on November 2, 1945 and to this union four children were born: Lynn Wayne, Carol Elaine, Ronald Keith, and Becky Sue. She worked together with Jerry on the family farm doing all of the usual farm chores. Marie always raised a large garden and preserved the fruits of her labor to feed the family all year. She always had room in the garden for some flowers and always had plenty of houseplants which thrived with her green thumb. Marie was a very good cook and was usually in the kitchen preparing a meal or baking something delicious. Everyone was always welcome in her home at any time and she could provide a complete meal, including something for desert on short notice. The kids might show up with a whole group of friends after school and she would feed them before they went on a road trip to play in a ball game. Her home was the meeting place for many Sunday family dinners.

One of Marie’s favorite activities was dancing and she really enjoyed music. There was very rarely a dance in the area that Jerry, Marie, and a group of friends did not attend. She was always involved in her children’s school activities and when the grandkids came along she did not miss many of their events. She learned to knit and enjoyed making afghans for all the kids and grandkids.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, son Lynn, sister Geraldine Leyland, brothers Hugh Gerber and Fritz Gerber, and her parents-in-law Herman and Faye Weyerman. She is survived by her daughters Carol (Gary) Andrews and Becky Weyerman and son Keith (Katie) Weyerman and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Weyerman. She is also survived by grandchildren Kevin (Jessica) Andrews, Brian (Danielle) Andrews, Brandon Weyerman, Whitney Weyerman, Lori (Jason) Carnahan, Angie Scheler, Jason (Lisa) Scheler, Nicole (Chris) Marrs, and Sierra Weyerman, and also her sixteen great grandchildren. Marie is also survived by her nephew, Jeff (Jo) Leyland.

A Celebration of Life was held at the St. John United Church of Christ in Idalia, Colorado, Monday, February 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Chuck Wright officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Lucas Cemetery in Idalia, Colorado at a later date.

Cremation was requested.
