Lorna M (Kohlman) Winden

d. February 4, 2013

LORNA MARIE WINDEN, 72, of Sterling died January 30, 2013 at SterlingLivingCenter.  Lorna was  born on September 23, 1940 in Wray to Loren and Rozza Kohlman.  Lorna attended school in Wray, CO.

In her earlier years growing up, Lorna spent most of her time at the Wray Sale Barn and Cedardale Nursing Home which were both family owned and operated.  Once she backed into a light pole learning to back up her Uncle Ned’s semi-truck.

On April 14, 1956, Lorna married Edward Winden in Raton, NM.  To this union 5 children were  born:  Thomas Edward, Rozza May, Larry Dean, Randy Lee and Tammy Jean.

Ed and Lorna moved to Commerce City where she worked briefly as a nurse at ValleyViewHospital.  Most of her married life she spent taking care of her family.  She was a cub scout troop leader while Tom followed his dream of becoming an Eagle Scout.  She was very proud of him when he achieved his goal.  Later on Ed and Lorna moved to Henderson and then to Keenesburg where they raised numerous exotic birds.  They enjoyed buying and selling them and going to the different auctions together.

Once Lorna’s parents bought Farmer’s Café she divided her time between her family and helping out at the café waiting tables and bartending.  In 1995 Ed and Lorna moved from Keenesburg to Berthoud.

She enjoyed crocheting and crocheted numerous afghans, baby blankets and tea towels.  She loved going to garage sales and traveling.  Lorna went on many road trips with her mom, Rozza Williamson.

Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whether it was cooking, canning, baking, pulling taffy, counting contractions, watching wrestling, going to many rodeos, dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, graduations or just numerous phone calls just to check in on them.  She was very proud of each one of them and was their biggest fan.  She would do anything for them at any given time.  After the passing of Ed, Lorna spent most of her time with family as well as her beloved and trusted companion….her Pomeranian dog…Peanut.
