Lona was born in Galva, Iowa, to Glenn and Hazel Williams on November 13, 1929. She passed away on February 22, 2016 at Hillcrest Care Center.
Lona moved to Hastings, Nebraska as a young teen where she met her future husband on a blind date. Lona attended Hastings College where she studied vocal music and was soloist for the Hastings College and the First Presbyterian Church choirs.
Lona and Robert were married on August 5, 1949, and moved to Brush, Colorado in 1950 to begin their new lives together. They were blessed with three children, David, Kristin and Michael.
In 1965, Lona and her family moved to Wray for Robert’s work. Lona loved being a housewife and mother. She was always available for her children and their friends.
After moving to Wray, Lona became involved with a number of groups and activities. She was very active in Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and Grand Adah for the Grand Chapter of Colorado. She enjoyed numerous bridge clubs, Rainbow girls, and singing in the church choir. One of her proudest accomplishments was chairing the Field of Dreams, fundraising committee for the Wray Community District Hospital in 1994.
Anyone who knew Lona knew she loved to sing and share her talent in the community. She was so proud to have passed her love of music to all her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Lona was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Hazel Williams. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert of 66 years; brothers, Rodney, Kent, CT; son, David and spouse, Nancy, Wray, Colorado; daughter, Kristin and spouse, Benny, Cheyenne, Wyoming; son, Michael and spouse, Karen, Colville, Washington; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
Memorials may be made to the Wray Community Child Care Center.
A Memorial Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Wray, Colorado, Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Wynkoop officiating.
Inurnment will be held in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado.
