Lillian Anabelle Peters was born in Armel, Colorado on October 5th 1939 to Harry and Christina Peters. She was the youngest of three children. Growing up Lillian spent most of her time on the family farm. At the age of 14, she moved from the family farm to St Francis, Kansas where she would finish high school. After graduation, Lillian set out for Denver. Her father told her if she wanted to work and make money “The City” is where she had to go. Upon her arrival in Denver, she attended business school. Lillian started working upon finishing school and was able to work with her sister Barbara.
Lillian and her sister were the very best of friends. She moved in with Barbara in 1954 to help with her nieces. Lillian and Barbara would work side by side raising Barbara’s three girls. Ginger, Cindy, and Sherrie. Lillian loved the children, she crafted with them, taught them to read and write, how to cook and of course how to crochet. Anyone who knew Lillian knew how wonderful she was at the art of crocheting. She also had a great love for cooking, which she taught her 3 nieces, and their children. On any given day you could find her with some joke and of course a tidbit or sarcasm.
Lillian was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis is 1986. She was unable to work just some years after that, but found peace and contentment in staying at home while still being able to crochet, cook, sew and keep up on housework. Lillian’s sister Barbara took on the roll of caretaker after her MS began to debilitate her. The two would live at home until Barbara’s death in December of 2010. After Barbara’s death, Lillian decided to move to Wray, where she resided at Hillcrest Care Center until her death On September 1st 2015.
She was absolutely one of a kind. If you met her once, you would never forget her. She had a quick witted sense of humor and a very strong mind and opinion! She also had an extremely tender heart for others. She loved giving and receiving, cards especially. Lillian loved people and enjoyed making new friends. She was especially social after entering Hillcrest in 2010. She met so many new people and was so blessed to make many new friends at that stage in life.
Lillian is preceded in death by her father Harry, mother Christina, brother Raymond Peters and his wife Margaret, sister Barbara Lawson, and nieces Ginger Alcorn, Cindy Chartier, and Sherri Jackson.
