Larry Dean Zion

May 8, 1944 — August 18, 2020

Larry Dean Zion born May 8, 1944 and entered into rest on August 18, 2020 at his home in Idalia Colorado. He was born in Wray, Colorado to Gerald and Katherine (Peters) Zion. He spent the entirety of his life homesteading in Idalia. He graduated from Idalia High School in 1962 and went on to college for a year in Fort Collins before returning home.

On September 29, 1963, he married the love of his life Crystal (Trembly) in Wray, Colorado. Together they had two children Cindy and Cory. They built their home in Idalia and continued to farm and ranch until his passing. Larry loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, attending rodeos, high school sports, auctions, and going to any pawn shops to find a bargain at. He loved to hunt and fish and take his grandkids to shoot a coyote or a prairie dog. He always had a joke to tell or he loved to tease you. Larry was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He never knew a stranger whether it was at a rodeo or a ballgame. He could always strike up a conversation. At a ballgame you would find him in the front row with his good friends as a volunteer ref.

He belonged to the Yuma County Cattlemen’s Association and was a member of Yuma County Fair Board for a number of years. He coached Little League Baseball and taught Hunters Safety Education. He was an active member of the Idalia community and huge supporter of Idalia School Athletics.

Larry is survived by his wife, Crystal of 56 years, mother, Katherine Zion, children, Cindy (Brad) Boppre, Cory (Megan) Zion, grandchildren, Megan Boppre, Tyler (Mia) Boppre, Tayler (Kevin) Wehrer, Coy Zion, Bex Zion, great-grandson, Jett Boppre and another one due at the end of August. He is also survived by siblings, Ronda (John) Monheiser, Rick Zion, Judith (Larry) French, sister-in-law, Ruth Houston, brother-in-law, Jerry Allen, and special friend, Rodney Akey. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
