June Ruby (Newbanks) Yost

June Ruby (Newbanks) Yost was born June 25, 1928 in Sterling, Colorado to Izero Jane (Coad) and Myron Spencer Newbanks. She weighed 3 pounds and 10 ounces when she was born. A nurse came to the home and put her in a shoe box and then in the oven to keep her warm. June was the eldest of eight children. She learned at a very young age how to take care of others.

She married the love of her life Wayne B. Yost on June 19, 1949 at the Presbyterian Church in Wray. To this union, their only child, Allen Wayne was born December 5, 1963. June was baptized in the Christian Church in Wray.

June attended grade school at a country school north of Wray and rode her horse 5 miles to school. The family moved north of Eckley when June was in the 4 ^th grade, where she attended sunset school through the 8 ^th grade. She then attended Wray High School where she graduated with the class of 1947.

After high school, she took so college courses in Greeley. She then secured a teacher’s certificate and boarded with the Orin Wilson family and taught at the Alvin School. She also taught at the Lansing Valley School. She then worked for the Farmers Home Administration for 33 years from which she retired.

June was very active in volunteer work after she retired. She was a member of the 55 and Over Club, Yuma County Area Agency on Aging, The Business and Professional Women’s Club, VFW Auxiliary, and Las Veinte Club for many years. June managed the Newbanks family reunion for many years. She loved family gatherings of any kind. She was always there to provide support to family members.

June spent the last few years living at The Towers and enjoyed living there. She enjoyed all the employees and participated in many of the activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne of 64 years, her parents, parent’s in-law Lawrence and Jessie Yost, Brothers Lloyd, Roy and Louis, sister Nell Wilson, Brother in-law Cliff Wilson, Brother in-law Dean Yost and sister in-law Mary Yost.

Those left to mourn her death are son Allen Yost, Brother John Newbanks and wife, Connie, sisters Madeline and husband Joe Conrad. Merna and husband Larry Skipworth, sister in-law, Cheryl Newbanks, brother in-law Steve Yost and Wife Joyce, many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Steve Wynkoop officiating. Memorials may be given to the 55 & Over Club (Senior Center, 741 W. 7 ^th Street, Wray, Colorado 80758 or the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge arrangements.
