Longtime Sandhill Resident
Judith (Judy) Ann (Workman) Minton was born January 22, 1937 in Haigler, NE in her Grandmother Holt’s home to Roy Henry and Permelia Jane (Holt) Workman. She passed away August 18, 2018 at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO, due to complications after surgery.
Judy was the third child of eleven children born into the Roy and Pam Workman family. (Six girls and five boys). She attended schools in Haigler, NE, Max NE and Laird, CO. While living in Laird, CO, she met the love of her life, Phil Minton. They were married May 1, 1955. To this union four children were born-Stanley, Alan, Susan and Kathy. Phil and Judy purchased the ranch North of Wray where they resided until 1994 when they moved into Wray and took care of Phil’s Aunt and cousin. During this time their granddaughter, Chandra Savage came to live with them. After taking care of his aunt and cousin they purchased a home on Dexter, before purchasing their final home on Adams street in Wray.
Judy was a member of the American Legion for 47 years, a member of the Wray Elks Lodge for 49 years. She was a long-time supporter of the 4-H program and a member of the Farmers Union.
During her life on the ranch everyone always knew that she would have a wonderful meal or goodies waiting for them. She always fed those who stopped by for a visit or come to help on the ranch. She was well-known for her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, homemade butter, chocolate chip cookies, and Scotcheroos. Another of Judy’s favorite pass-times was hunting arrow-heads with fellow sandhill ladies. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds.
Judy was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to have family and friends around and enjoyed “fussing over” them. Family and friends always felt at home at Phil and Judy’s.
They enjoyed dancing and spent many hours gliding across the floor at the Wauneta Hall, and Quonset dances.
After Phil’s passing, granddaughter Chandra eventually came to live with her Grandma to care for her in her home until her recent hospitalization.
