Joyce E. (Applegate) Williams

Joyce Elaine (Applegate) Williams was born on February 22, 1927 on the family farm near Luray, KS to Forrest and Laura Faye (Spoon) Applegate. She passed away March 26, 2016 at Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, CO at the age of 89.
She was raised on the family farm and attended the Cheyenne Country School through the 8th grade. She transferred to the Osborne School District, in Osborne, KS to complete her High School education, graduating in 1945.
She married Paul Williams July 21, 1945. To this union two children were born, Kathy and Doug. They spent the early years of their marriage in Osborne, KS where Paul was the linotype operator for the Osborne County Farmer while Joyce was a home maker and raised Kathy and Doug. In 1956, they moved to Johnstown, CO when they purchased the local newspaper, the Johnstown Breeze. They owned and operated the newspaper and worked together until 1975. However, after they sold the newspaper they both continued to work for the new owners.
Joyce was a member of the Johnstown United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 20 years and was a charter member of the Johnstown Historical Society. Also, she was the owner and operator of Inches Aweigh in Johnstown for many years. She loved working with all of her clients and made many lasting friendships during that time. She was a fifty-year member of Eastern Star, holding many offices including Worthy Matron. She served as a Cub Scott Leader while Doug was active in scouting. She enjoyed doing ceramics and made Christmas Ornaments every year for the Historical Society. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and especially cooking for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Faye Applegate, her husband, Paul Williams, and her sister Evea Jane Sigle.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Neubauer and husband Paul of Wray, son Doug Williams and wife Maricel of Canoga Park, CA, grandson Brian Neubauer and wife Jeannie of Wray, granddaughter Keri Imhof and husband Ethan of Johnstown and three great grandsons, Andrew and Kyle Neubauer of Wray and Myles Carson of Johnstown, and many nieces and nephews.
Following a private family inurnment a memorial service will be held at the Johnstown United Methodist Church, 108 King Avenue, Johnstown, CO on April 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM.
Memorials may be made in her honor to Hillcrest Care Center.
