Jordan Gail Prentice, age 16, died after sustaining injuries in a car accident in Wray, CO on November 8, 2017. Jordan was born on February 14, 2001 at Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, CO to Joseph Prentice and Jeannette Prentice. Jordan attended Van Arsdale Elementary School in Arvada, CO as well as Buchanan Middle School and Wray High School.
Jordan grew up in the Westminster/Broomfield, Colorado area. She lived there until age 11, when she moved to Wray and began attending Buchanan Middle School.
During her middle school years, Jordan played softball, volleyball, basketball and ran track. She also took art classes and choir. In her eighth-grade year, the Wray Lion’s Club recognized her as “Student of the Month”.
She continued playing sports at Wray High School, joining the volleyball and track teams. She was honored her freshman and sophomore years with “The Most Improved Player” in volleyball. She loved her art classes at Wray High, and one of her pieces was recognized by the VFW for its excellence. Her entries in the Wray Schools art show won first and second place. For two years, Jordan was employed by the City of Wray as a lifeguard at the Wray Aquatic Center.
Jordan attended First Christian Church in Wray, where she was an active member of the youth group Lyft. Pastor Steve Wynkoop baptized her at age 13. Praise and worship music moved her soul.
She was known for her room-brightening, contagious smile, her salty sense of humor, and her booming laugh, heard as she watched YouTube video montages and horror films. Jordan was always most comfortable in jeans and her trademark black Converse Chuck Taylor’s, which she wore even with her best dresses. Her sense of self sometimes surprised friends and family members. Jordan was always genuine, and you knew where you stood with her at all times.
Jordan is survived by: parents Joseph Prentice and Jeannette Prentice, Wray, CO; sister Ryan Perkins and brother-in-law Benjamin Perkins, Aurora, CO; Grandmother Vicky Sharp, Wray, CO and Grandmother Gail Potts, Green Valley, AZ; nephews Hunter Perkins and Jamison Perkins, Aurora, CO.
