Joanne “Kay” Ekberg (Stone) entered into eternal rest surrounded by family on August 24, 2012.  Kay was born in Vernon, Colorado on March 29, 1941.  She was raised on a family farm where she learned the values of hard work and love for family.  She married her sweetheart and soul-mate on July 8, 1962. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family.  They were so proud of achieving this magical milestone on July 8, 2012.  George and Kay resided in Alaska from 1962 to 1981 with several other residences in Colorado, both in Wray with George’s mom Angie and in Fort Collins, where they bought their first home.  In 1981 they relocated to Vancouver, Washington.

Kay worked in Fairbanks, Alaska for Yukon Equipment and in Vancouver for the Evergreen School District and then retired from Allen Chiropractic, where she was an office manager for many years.  Kay also very much enjoyed square dancing with her husband George at the Dates and Mates Square Dance Club in Vancouver.

Kay was a mother of three children Valerie (Dave) of Anchorage, Alaska, Nathan (Vicki) of Aurora, Colorado and Tim (Lilly) of Tigard, Oregon.  Kay was named Homemaker of the Year for the State of Alaska in 1979.  Kay was passionate about gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.  Kay is survived by her husband, George, her mother Ruth Stone of Wray, Colorado, sisters Sue (John) Peterson of Poway, California and Beverlee (Rick) Eskew of Otis, brother Melbourne (Connie) Stone of Longmont as well as her children Valerie, Nathan & Tim and 9 grandchildren   She was preceded in death by her father Eugene Stone and sister Laura Mae Soehner.  She will be missed by family and friends and has touched the lives of many who knew her.

Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver , Washington on Monday, August 27th, 2012 at 3:00 pm and on Thursday, August 30th at 10:00 am at Wray United Methodist Church in Wray Colorado.
