Jerry Robert Haines, born on March 17, 1967, in Tyler, Texas, was welcomed into the loving arms of his adoptive parents, Charles “Chuck” and Gracie Haines. His early years were spent in Texas, where he developed a passion for football, often seen wearing a Dallas Cowboys helmet while playing with his cousins and father.
During his elementary years, Jerry and his family moved to Wray, Colorado. Summers were spent at the Beecher Island Sunday School vacation Bible school program, where he embraced his faith in Christ. Jerry attended Wray schools, excelling in academics and sports, and led the Wray Eagles to a state football championship in 1984 as their quarterback.
After high school, Jerry pursued higher education at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, before returning to Colorado. He worked for the Department of the Interior and later established a successful construction business. Jerry was an avid sportsman and hunter, eagerly anticipating each hunting season.
In 2011, Jerry began officiating high school football with the Denver Football Officials Association, earning respect and admiration for his dedication and integrity. He officiated numerous games, including a Colorado State Championship game in 2019.
Jerry entered the presence of his Savior on August 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather. He is survived by his aunts, uncle, cousins, and many friends. A memorial service will be held on October 14, 2025, at The First Christian Church in Wray, Colorado, at 2:00 pm.
