Jeanette B. Rieb

June 2, 1936 — July 25, 2015

Jeanette Bernice Rieb was born June 2, 1936 in Syracuse, KS to William and Eleanor Maupin. She passed away at her home in Wray July 25, 2015.

She attended school in Denver and Eaton and graduated from Brush High School in 1954. After high school she attended secretarial school in Denver and worked for Shell Oil Company for five years. She then moved back to Brush where she met Ronald C. Rieb and they were married Aug. 17, 1963.
They lived in Brush with daughters Shari (Rieb) Rhoades and Lori (Rieb) Rose. In August of 1966, Ron and Jeanette moved to Wray after they purchased one half interest in The Wray Gazette from Roscoe Bullard.
Jeanette immediately immersed herself in running the paper, while maintaining her role as a full time wife and mother. Her greatest joy while working at The Gazette was handling advertising duties. Serving Wray's merchants, meeting and welcoming new people to the community were a special joy to Jeanette throughout her life.
Ron and Jeanette owned The Wray Gazette until 1986 when they sold the newspaper with intentions of retiring. During this time, Jeanette worked at the local USDA Service Center until the urge to return to the newspaper business led Ron and Jeanette to purchase the Lake Powell Chronicle in 1989. Ron and Jeanette moved to Page, AZ to take over the paper and while there, met many good people and made many wonderful friends. They owned the Chronicle until the opportunity arose in 1993 for the Riebs to once again purchase their beloved Wray Gazette and Ron and Jeanette acquired The Gazette and moved back "home" to Wray to be closer to their growing family and once again serve the local community.
Even after Ron passed away in March of 2007, Jeanette continued to be a part of The Wray Gazette and continued her role in advertising for Wray's weekly newspaper until the time of her passing. Jeanette truly enjoyed working with Wray's merchants and was a driving force behind the Wray Chamber of Commerce and its famed Retail Committee for decades. One of Jeanette's true passions lay in promoting Wray retail outlets but her true love in life was her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to each and every visit with them and tried to attend as many of their events as often as she could.
The Christmas season was the most important time of the year for Jeanette. She spent countless hours decorating her home and preparing for family time.
Jeanette greatly anticipated and looked forward to the gathering of all her family in Wray for the holidays and her family cherished the special Christmas dinners and the special touches she always put on the annual family gathering.
Preceding Jeanette in death were her parents, William and Eleanor (Bunning) Maupin and husband Ronald C. Rieb.
Surviving Jeanette to celebrate her life are daughters Shari Rhoades, her husband Bobby and their sons Brok and Brant of Burlington and Lori and her husband Kent Rose and their daughter Amber of Gillette,WY and her children Baylee, Aliya, Slayde and Jayce and son Christopher and his wife, Kimberly and their children Jordan, Autumn and James of Wray.
