James Dennis Vaughn

August 13, 1942 — August 9, 2015

Our friend, James Dennis Vaughn, also known as Jim, or more fondly as Jimmy to his friends, was born on August 13, 1942, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Dennis Vaughn and Mary Kay Hern Vaughn (Emil). He left this life on August 9, 2015, in Wray, Colorado. Jim served in the navy after graduating high school and was on one of the last ships to port in Cuba.

Jim was a gypsy or maybe a better word would be nomad. He was adventurous and had many different jobs in the course of his life. Jim was a welder's helper, worked at Timken Bearing, was a ski bum/ski tech -tuner/handyman in Aspen, and a cabinet and sign installer. He also worked at Disney World the first year that it was open and after that on the Alaska Pipeline.

Jim enjoyed motorcycling, boating, flying in planes, traveling, and most importantly he loved to fish from his bass boat or canoe. In 1967, he bought a shiny new Corvette and within the week, had totaled it while racing. He was a craftsmen and taught himself to make miniatures inside of bottles after reading an article about it. He made his own tools and props to create the miniature works of artistic beauty, because everything had to fit through the hole in the top of the bottle. They were given as special gifts or sold. He crafted a log cabin in a large teardrop bottle and sold it to John Denver, which was one of his favorite stories.

Always being a big kid was helpful, because he loved the simple things in life. He water skied on Lake Erie, roller skated and flew his fighter kites all over the United States and spent many hours enjoying time with his friends. Jim moved to Wray in 2007 to help his good friends and decided to stay. Jim and Bob met in 1984 and they stayed fast friends from then on. He could fix almost anything and was always inventing something.

Being pessimistic was a big part of who Jim was, but he was always optimistic that he would win the lottery that he was so fond of playing or that Publishers Clearing House would be at his door.

Jim will be greatly missed by his friends and the many people who knew and had met him.
