Idell Laverne (Weeden) Zuege

November 24, 1932 — September 3, 2023

On November 24, 1932, Thanksgiving Day, Verne and Pearl (Confer) Weeden welcomed Idell LaVerne to their family. On Sunday, September 3, 2023, she passed away at the age of 90 at Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colorado. Idell was born into a large and loving family who spent time together sharing their lives. A few years later, her sister, Verla joined the small family, and after that Melvin and Marvin came to live with them. She went to grade school in a small country school with family and neighbors. High school in St. Francis, Kansas was spent with weekends at home and weekdays in town.

Idell met Dale Zuege when she went to the movies with a friend who was to meet him herself. After that Idell and Dale spent as much time together as possible. She finished high school and then moved to Denver so she could go to secretarial school.

On November 29, 1952, Dale and Idell married with many of their family and friends in attendance. They lived near Laird, Colorado where they worked for a local rancher. September 1958 brought change once again when they adopted Vernett Kay and again, three years later, when Allen Eugene was adopted.  Before the kids started school, the farm west of Vernon was purchased and updated for them to move to. Idell fulfilled many jobs while living on the farm, but enjoyed being a mom, most of all. She loved reading with enjoyment only a few of us can imagine. She was a good cook and baked desserts for her family on a regular basis. Her hand embroidery work was beautiful, and she enjoyed sharing it with others as gifts.

Idell was blessed with four grandchildren who she loved whole heartedly. Jason, Stephanie, Jared and Trevor spent time with her at the farm, boating at the lake, attending their school functions, and just sitting at the table sharing a meal.

Idell was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Extension Homemakers and attended the Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Idell was preceded in death by her spouse, Glen Dale Zuege and brother, Marvin Confer.

She is survived by her sister, Verla Jean (Les) Gockley of Ft. Morgan; Melvin (Pat) Confer and sister-in-law, Esther Confer of St. Francis, Kansas, daughter, Vernett (Robert) Gorman, son, Allen(Denise) Zuege; grandchildren, Jason Zuege, Stephanie(Tyler) Richards, Jared(Erin) Zuege of Sterling, Colorado, Trevor (Mallory) Zuege and great-grandchildren, Kenna, Emily, Brody, Tatum, Abbie, Easton, Carter, Nolan, Barrett, Grayson, Harper and Harrison. Along with aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
