Howard Vern Mcginnis

Howard Vern McGinnis born July 3, 1952, to Samuel McGinnis and Eunice (Smith) Jamison in Yuma, Colorado.

He attended school in Laird thru the 8th grade, graduating in 1966. Howard then attended Wray High School graduating from Wray in 1970. Howard attended NJC for two years with a Civil Engineering Degree.

Howard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1972, was stationed overseas in the Netherlands until 1974. After returning to the states, he was stationed at the Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah and was Honorable Discharge, September 1976. He then reenlisted in the U.S. Air orce reserves until he was Honorable Discharge on January 23, 1978, with a ranking of Staff Sergeant.

On August 12, 1972, Howard married the love of his life and soul mate, Edith “Edie” Rowena (Severn) McGinnis until her death July 17, 2018. To this union were born two sons, Patrick on March 16, 1975, and William on July 2, 1978.

Howard worked for Brueggeman Construction and Yuma Co. Road and Bridge until his retirement in 2016. Since 1976 to the present, Howard has farmed and ranched the Family Farm while taking care of cows. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, family dinners with the boys and grandkids.

Howard is survived by his sons, William McGinnis of Laird, Colorado; Pat and Anne McGinnis of Wray, Colorado; grandchildren, Sam, Emily, Katie, and Dustin; great-grandchild, Grady (son of Sam); brother & sister-in-law, Larry & Naomi McGinnis of Akron, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 46 years, Edith McGinnis.

Cremation was requested with no services. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Plains, 421 Main Street, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado has been entrusted with the arrangements.
