Hermine Stewart, our “Sunshine”, was granted her angel wings and joined her husband Monday, January 25th, surrounded by her family at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. A memorial service was held last Wednesday at the Schmidt- Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado.
Hermine was born on June 22nd in 1930 in Virton, Belgium as the daughter of Georges and Mathilde Wattelet. At the age of 14, she met Robert Stewart, the love of her life and her future husband, during World War II. After six years of waiting and a lot of letters, Hermine and Robert were married in Brussels, Belgium. At the age of 21, Hermine arrived in the United States on the Queen Mary to join her husband Robert where they started their family in Longmont, CO. They had what they considered the perfect sized family; a son, Russell, born in October 1951 and a daughter, Shirley, born in June 1954.
Being a homemaker, Hermine devoted most of her time to raising her children and later in life, spending time with her grandchildren. Cooking seemed like one of her most common joys. As the family remembers Sunday feast merely every Sunday, with the family, all cooked with love by Hermine. Hermine also enjoyed other hobbies such as reading, knitting and listening to talk radio. When not cooking or raising kids, she spent time with Robert helping him in his many businesses, the main one being his Bee Sweet Honey business.
Hermine’s death was preceded by her husband Robert Stewart in 1996 and is survived by her children Shirley Farris and Russell Stewart, her grandchildren Sabrina Lake and Stewart Farris, and her five great-grandchildren.
As her nickname says, she was our sunshine. She could brighten the darkest room and warm your heart on the coldest day. It is hard for all of us that our sunshine has been taken away, however we know she is now shining on all of us from above with Robert.
Hermine; mom, grandma, great-grandma you are greatly missed. We love you so very much.
