Fern Elizabeth Lippert was born March 18th, 1926 at the Hahn homestead Northwest of Wray. She was the 3rd child out of the 10 children of James S. and Ana F (Hahn) Brown. She lived all of her life in the Wray/Vernon area. Fern attended schools at Wray, Vernon and the Hahn school house finishing the 9th grade.
December 20th, 1942 Fern was united in marriage to Fred J Lippert in St. Francis Ks. To this union 7 children were born, La Rue, Freddie Dale, Judy, Bob, Tom, Kathy and Tim. Most of their married life was spent in the Vernon area farming, ranching and running a grade B dairy. Fern took the responsibility of being a wife and mother to heart. Her days consisted of cooking, cleaning and sewing for her family. She loved her children very much and was always there with motherly advice and always happy to help. In 1973 Fred and Fern moved to Wray and left their farm in the capable hands of their son Tom. While in town, Fern enjoyed being a member of the Rebecca Lodge #123, Wray Vista club and the embroidery club, most importantly she was able to spend many days babysitting grandkids, cooking them delicious food, showing them how to sew (even the boys) and hiding their downfalls from parents and Grampy. Some of our fondest memories were Grammy singing “Found a Peanut” and “Strawberry Roan” while checking cattle with Grampy; along with playing cards, drinking Russian tea, and trying to beat Grampy and Bertha Anderson at pitch. Every Christmas the grandkids looked forward to getting homemade items she worked on throughout the year. She was always there for anyone in need; whether it was a child that needed a bite to eat, a man down on his luck or her brother Ross in the nursing home, she was always there willing to help. Her grandkids called her Grammy along with almost anyone who met her.
In 2006, Fern moved in with her son-in-law and daughter Allen and Judy Jones. She lived there until July 2011 when she moved to Hillcrest Care Center until being called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ January 21st, 2012.
