Evelyne Joy Brown

March 19, 1925 — January 29, 2025

Evelyne Joy Brown, born on March 19, 1925, in Yuma County, Colorado, to Oscar and Ethel (Peterson) Hicks, passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Care Center on January 29, 2025. Evelyne spent most of her life in Yuma County, with a brief period away while her husband, Elmer Brown, served in the Army in Europe during World War II.

She married Elmer on November 22, 1942, and together they raised seven children: Kenneth (Mariela), Lynette, Gayle (Jon) Harouff, Randy (Helen), Dennis (Olga), Pam (Delbert) Johnson, and Vicki. Evelyne was blessed with fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Professionally, Evelyne worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for several years but dedicated most of her life to being a homemaker. She had a passion for reading, embroidering, and working outdoors, activities she enjoyed well into her later years. Evelyne and Elmer shared a love for nature, spending countless days nurturing their windbreak of 1500 trees until Elmer's passing in 1993.

Evelyne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elmer, her parents, siblings Don Hicks and Lovella Hills, her son Kene, and daughters Lynette and Gayle. She is survived by her children Randy, Dennis, Pam, and Vicki, along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial plans are pending, and a celebration of Evelyne's life is planned for this summer.
