Esther Anna Dickson, 99, passed away on October 9, 2017 at the Hillcrest Care Center, Wray, Colorado. She was born on July 1, 1918 in Pleasant Dale, Nebraska to Joseph D. and Blanche (Ickes) Minchow. In 1919, her family moved to a farm south of Wray, Colorado and later purchased a farm south of Eckley, Colorado.
Esther attended Wray and Eckley schools through the 8 th grade. In 1968, at age 50 she obtained her GED Certificate.
In 1937, Esther enjoyed working at Stead’s Ranch in Estes Park, Colorado. Herbert Dickson would go to Estes Park to visit her and on June 4, 1938 they were united in marriage--to this union four children were born—Charlene, John, Charlotte and Bob. They farmed west of Vernon until 1963, when they sold the farm and moved to Wray. They purchased land south of Wray and continued to do dry land farming.
Esther was an Avon Representative from 1967 to 2013 thoroughly enjoying all of her customers. She was always prepared to go to work, rain or shine, when UPS made the delivery.
Esther was a 50 year plus member of the Vernon and Wray Methodist Churches. She taught Sunday School and Bible School in Vernon.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert of 48 years; son, Bob; parents, Joseph and Blanche Minchow; brothers, Victor, Maurice and Cashus Minchow; sister, Irene Critchfield.
Esther is survived by her children, Charlene Curtis, Fresno, California, Charlotte McIntosh and husband, Craig of St. Charles, Missouri; John Dickson and wife, Sheryl of Grove, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Susan Dickson Sheridan of Lakewood, Colorado; sister-in-law, Lutie Wakefield of Wray, Colorado; and brother-in-law, Charles Massara, of Pueblo, Colorado. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Ben Wentworth officiating. Interment will be held in the Glendale Cemetery in Vernon, Colorado. Memorials may be given to the Wray United Methodist Church, 500 S. Blake Street, Wray, Colorado 80758. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
