Eleanor L. Herrick

Eleanor was born November 24, 1926 to Arnold and Thelma (Myers) Unger in the family home in Wray, Colorado. She was blessed to have a twin sister, Esther. Eleanor had 2 brothers, Jack and Earle and 3 sisters, Betty, her twin sister Esther, and Laura.

Eleanor graduated from Wray High School in 1944.

Eleanor and her twin sister went to dances and roller skating around the Wray area where she met the love of her life, Vernon Herrick.

Vernon and Eleanor were married December 28, 1948 in Wray, Colorado. To this union three children were born, Martha E. April 2, 1950, Margaret E. July 15, 1951, and Douglas V. November 9, 1961.

Martha was united in marriage September 14, 1968 to Gary E. Stone and to this union two children were born, Justin November 23, 1975 and Martie July 17, 1979.

Margaret was united in marriage to Stanley W. Spelts on July 19, 1969 and to this union two children were born, Melissa Chapman May 14, 1973 and Melena Bivens March 28, 1976.

Douglas was united in marriage to Kim Johnson on July 26, 1996 and Kim added her three boys Scott, Andrew, and Jeremy to the family.

Eleanor was a legal secretary for many years and later worked as the office manager of the Wray Clinic where she retired in 1995.

Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She was helping babysit the three great great grandchildren at the time of her death.

The highlight of Eleanor’s retirement was a trip to Jamaica with Marg and Melissa’s family. She was 87 years old at the time and went swimming with the dolphins, spent the day dancing on a catamaran, and was able to watch the sunset at the end of the day on the catamaran. On this trip she also had fresh caught lobster and conch soup, she said it was the best she’d ever had.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, sisters Betty Allison, Esther Bullock, and Laura Randels, and Brothers Jack and Earle. Son in Law Stanley Spelts, Brothers in Law Ivan Bullock, Steve Allison Sr., Jerry Randels, George Tracy, Orville Herrick, Melvin Herrick, and Elmer J. Herrick, Sister in Law Dorothy Tracy, and her parents in law also preceded her in death.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter Martha and Gary Stone, daughter Margaret Spelts, son Doug and Kim Herrick.  She is also survived by granddaughter Melissa and Stuart Chapman, grandson Justin Stone, granddaughter Melena and Brad Bivens, granddaughter Martie Stone and Brandon Lang, grandsons Scott and Casey Herrick, Andrew Herrick, Jeremy and Rashae Herrick.  Eleanor is also survived by great grandchildren Cody Chapman, Cory Chapman, Casey Chapman, Taryn Stone, Kristen Bivens, Alyssa Chapman, Christopher Bivens, Presleigh Herrick, Leanna Herrick, Annie Herrick, Treston Herrick, Emmy Herrick, Brexley Herrick, Baylor Herrick, Sawyer Herrick, and Truitt Herrick. Eleanor is survived by three great great grandchildren Avery Chapman, Barrett Chapman, and Emerson Chapman.
