Douglas L Post

Douglas Lynn Post was born on Dec 11, 1967, to Leslie and Alice (Kummer) Post. Doug went home to be with Jesus on Jun 26, 2022, at the age of 54.

Doug graduated from Wray High School with the Class of 1986 and shortly after started his first job working for John’s 66. He really loved that job and learned a lot from his coworkers.

He met the love of his life, Kandi Herman at a church youth group function at the Wray Nazarene Church. Although, he didn’t let on to his infatuation for several months. Then one night after youth group he decided to be bold and kissed Kandi on the church grass. Caught her off guard and he thought he was going to get slapped. They started dating, much to Kandi’s moms dismay, in September of 1987.  In February of 1988, Doug went to Yuma over Kandi’s lunch hour at school and popped the question, again taking Kandi by surprise.

They were married March 11, 1989, at the Wray Nazarene Church by Pastor Rod Thelander.  This past March they celebrated 33 years of marriage.

To their Union three beautiful children were born: Emily Nicole in September of 1990 and Bryant Lynn in January of 1993.  They thought their family was complete.  God had them surprised and Logan Tyler joined the family in August of 1998.

Doug was an avid sports nut.  He was always either watching some kind of sport, listening to some kind of sport, listening to someone talk or analyze some kind of sport or talking some kind of sport himself. He enjoyed coaching sports and attending his children’s activities.  If there wasn’t a sport on, he would take his boys out in the yard and play with them, teach them and talk about sports with them. He also loved his playing days.

He even supported and encouraged our nieces and nephews and even friends’ kids that were playing.

Doug’s favorite sport was baseball. His favorite teams were the Colorado Rockies and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was like a kid in the candy store when he got to meet and get Ozzie Smith’s autograph at his last baseball game in Denver when he retired. That hat was Doug’s valued possession after that.

Doug and Kandi also had a “friendly” rivalry going as Kandi is a Chicago Cubs fan.

Doug was also a very avid Raiders fan. He wasn’t afraid to let everyone know how much he despised the Broncos and would always root for the team the Broncos were playing. He would tend to get a bit mouthy and yell at the tv a lot.  He also had a “friendly” rivalry with his brother Gary who is a diehard Broncos fan and his son-in-law Ryan who is a Chiefs fan. Sports were a huge part of Doug’s life.

His one dream this summer was to finally get to work with his oldest grandson, Aiden, to teach him to play grandpas favorite sport, baseball.

Doug was a hard worker and wasn’t afraid to work or too proud to work extra for his family. He has held several jobs and at times he would hold two jobs at a time.

One of his favorites was working at La Familia, he loved the fun antics of some of the teens he would work with. He made lifelong friendships with a few of them and have claimed them as family along the way.

He also loved driving his truck for Seaboard and made some pretty good friendships there.  His latest job was for CHS where he was the oldest guy in his crew, and they called him grandpa.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Alice Post (McCloud), his son Bryant, sister-in-law Mary Post and his nephew Isac Saldivar.

He leaves behind to mourn his loss: his wife Kandi, daughter Emily Chippeaux and husband Ryan, son Logan and fiancé Rebecca Kurtzer; his bonus sons, Nick Engel, Trevor Buchanan and Andrew Davis; his siblings Dan and Linda Post, Joyce and Ken Surls, Gary Post and sister, Linda Blacks; mother-in-law, Rhonda Russell, father-in-law, Delbert Johnson; sisters-in-law, Chana Herman, Karen Johnson and Samantha and Danny Vasquez; brothers-in-law Craig and Rachelle Johnson, Jr and Theresa Johnson, Bryon Johnson and Mickie Johnson.

The pride and joys of Doug’s life were his three grandchildren: Aiden, Nolan and Baby Chippeaux.

He also leaves his god daughter, Wendy Weatherly and family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Doug made friends wherever he went and was loved by many.  He even made big impacts on the doctors and nurses with his positive attitude while he was in UC Health. The nurses told us they loved being in his room because it was serene and calm. Doug had his share of medical and health issues, especially the last five and a half years. He never did lose his sense of humor, positive outlook or his ornery streak. He is going to be dearly missed by so many.

Receiving of Family & Friends was held Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 1, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Ben Beckner officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Doug Post Memorial Fund, c/o First Pioneer National Bank, 145 W. 4 ^th Street, Wray, Colorado 80758.
