Doris Faye (Bandel) Weed was born on July 19th, 1936 near Bird City, KS to Rienhold Bandel and Alida(Schorzman) Bandel. Doris was one of four children: Kenneth Bandel, Laura Bandel and Marcella (Bandel) Schweitzer.
She grew up near Bird City, KS where she attended school. In school, she participated in school plays, F.H.A, Pep Club, and Vocal Club in addition to working on the family farm. Doris graduated in 1955 as one of 28 students in the Bird City senior class.
On October 8th, 1960, Doris was united in marriage to Herbert Weed, Jr. at the Cheyenne County Courthouse in Saint Francis, KS. They had five children: Robert, Valerie, Joey, Preston, and Sandy. From these children they were blessed with 17 grandkids and 35 great-grandkids. Doris baked pies to be sold at the Wheeler Cafe. The family moved to Wray, CO where Doris was a homemaker and contributed to the family farm in various ways. Along with Herb, Doris was an dog breeder of AKC registered dogs. The dogs provided a great deal of joy to her. She, also, was the custodian at the Wray State Bank from 1985 until 2002.
Doris enjoyed many pastimes. She was an avid reader, participated as one of the Laird Ladies, baked homemade goods that she was well-known for including angel food cake, quilted, and crocheted. Doris loved enjoying Colorado sports on TV or the radio including: Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche. Another favorite of Doris’ was time spent outdoors. Doris spent many warm Colorado nights with Herb on their front porch listening to the radio as the bug zapper buzzed, and toads and crickets sang out in the background.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents Rienold and Lydia, brother Kenny and her husband, Herbert Weed Jr. .
Viewing/Visitation was held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 5, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Timothy P. Davis officiating. Interment was in the Grandview Cemetery in Wray, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Hospital Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, 13123 East 16th Avenue - Aurora, CO 80045. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
