Derrick "Goob" Dean Bassnett

Derrick Dean Bassnett, also known to his friends and family as “Goob”, was born on February 20, 1969 to James Bassnett and Ann Dickens in Torrington, Wyoming. He passed away on September 7, 2019 in Atwood, Kansas.

Derrick grew up in Yoder, Wyoming where he attended school. After high school, he moved to Haigler, Nebraska where he went to work for Rich Peterson. While in Haigler, he met Shawn Hatton and were married on May 3, 1994. To this union two children were born Colin and Tiffany.

Derrick worked a few different jobs with feedlots and farmers. His last job was a pumper for the oil fields. Derrick enjoyed hearing from his sister, Kelli about how his nephews were doing in their sports. Derrick also really enjoyed when his grandkids would come stay with them.

Derrick is proceeded in death by his grandmother, Doris Sturgeon, his mother, Ann Dickens and his father-in-law, Phil Hatton.

He is survived by his wife, Shawn Bassnett; son, Colin Bassnett of Wray, Colorado; daughter, Tiffany (Andrew) of Holtom City, Texas; grandkids, Jasmine and Riley Bassnett of Wray, Colorado; sister, Kelli (Mike) Ohnoutka; nephews, Adam and Aaron Ohnoutka all of Wahoo, Nebraska, brother-in-law, Phillip Hatton and mother-in-law, Glenda Hatton both of Wray, Colorado.

A Visitation / Viewing was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado. A Funeral service was held at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Harold Jackson officiating.

A Private Family Inurnment will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Vernon, Colorado at a later date. Cremation was requested.
