Denise Was born April 20th 1961 to Dennis and Claudia Gretch. She was born and raised with her younger brother Dennis in Sterling Colorado. The family had a school bus converted to a camper. They spent many nights in it fishing and water-skiing.
She married Myron "Rusty" Flint in 1979. They had 2 sons, Micheal and Melvin. She has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
Denise was a homemaker while the kids were growing up, she loved what she called kitchen therapy. Making and baking everything from cakes and candy to her chicken bombs. She hosted cookie parties and always had her ever-delightful popcorn. Denise's happy place was the kitchen to entertain and teach how to make tasty treats or craft projects.
She became a CNA and then went back to school to be an RN. She worked at several facilities and was currently an RN at the Sterling correctional facility. She called it "Dragon Slaying". Though it was stressful, she enjoyed the job and coworkers. She believed that you are responsible for your own behavior and would often tell people "Suck it up buttercup".
With her father being a mechanic, she really liked being around cars. Her family participated in Demolition Derby's and she was always supportive of them. Helping paint cars or barbecuing for the crew.
She had a swimming pool called "Denise's Ocean" and when one of the little ones learned how to swim, she would promote them from guppy to goldfish. She always made it fun. Dressing up in costumes for birthdays and other events. Christmas was always special to her and her house was always "over the top" in decorations and the Light Show.
Denise considered herself a Warrior of Christ and lived by FROG, "Fully Rely On God". She helped many people with their faith, and she thanked God every day for a new day and prayed often, mostly for friends and family that needed uplifting.
She always tried to pay it forward and funded many secret Santa gifts. She was the kind of person upon meeting her you felt like you knew forever.
After Rusty's passing she met Dan Steckman, the couple married in 2023. Both having similar life stories and interests they seemed made for each other. Together they traveled to 14 different states. Rode the Jeep and 4-Wheeler on trails in Colorado and Missouri. They went to Texas to see the solar eclipse. They Drove Route 66 from Texas to Chicago. The yearly Rock n Rumble trip where she dressed up in her poodle skirt and monkey costume. Went to several plays, concerts and comedy shows, not to mention Rodeo, and Car Races. Some of her favorite Dates were to the wrecking yard to help get parts. Denise was always upbeat and had a smile especially. She liked Fishing, Camping, Gardening, most anything outdoors. Denise also loved her "Fur Babies" and had 6 dogs of all sizes, some of which she rescued. She leaves behind family and friends to rejoice in Heaven's new Journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Sterling CO on July 12th with more details later.
