Debra Jean Leighton passed away on July 6, 2018 in Greeley.
Debi was born in Wray, Colorado July 5, 1954 to Hugo “Wheat” and Hazel (Phillips) Myers. She
graduated from Wray High School in 1972. On July 10, 1971 Debi eloped with the love of her
life, Terry Leighton. Debi and Terry remained happily married until her passing.
Debi and Terry built a house on the top of Cemetery Road where they raised four children. Debi
worked at First Pioneer National Bank for nearly 30 years, mostly as an IRA specialist.
While working full time and raising four children, Debi earned her Associate of Arts Degree in
1998. In 2006, Debi and Terry moved to Greeley, Colorado to be near their first grandchild.
Later in her career, Debi worked as a Realtor and a contractor for Solomon Edwards.
Debi was a gifted seamstress, making much of her children's, grandchildren’s and her own
clothing. Debi enjoyed snowmobiling with her family. Above all, she was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all.
Debi is survived by her husband, Terry Leighton, her children, Darbi (Tony) Invergo, Kyli, Trevor
(Tosha), and Taren, her grandchildren, Carlie, Carson, Evie, Decker, and Granger, and by her
siblings, Larry Myers, Gail Lake, Glenda Osborn and Jr. Myers. She was preceded in death by
her parents.
A Memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Wray, Colorado on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Wynkoop officiating. Cremation was requested. Memorials may be given to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, NW Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20005. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
