David Kechi Henson

January 31, 1976 — August 11, 2022

David Kechi Henson was born on January 31st, 1976, in Bakersfield, California to Jimmie and Judy Henson.  He was greeted by his two older brothers Jim and Josh Henson.  The family soon relocated to Wray.  Sadly, Dave lost his father a few short years later.  His family continued their life in Northeast Colorado.  Dave was eccentric and liked to make up words such as Bakabeeka to have fun with his siblings.

Dave attended school in Akron Colorado before moving back to Wray during his 8th grade year.  At this time Dave grew to think of Wray as his hometown while maintaining significant connections with out-of-town friends.  He spent significant time with the Day Family of Yuma on their farm where he was able to explore and became very close with the family.  He also formed significant friendships with people around him at school.  He graduated from Wray High School in 1994.

Dave went on to attend Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado where he majored in Sociology.  He spent summers in Vermont during this time working with youth at Camp Abenaki in Vermont where he developed a love for sailing.  He met lifelong friends during this time.

After graduation he returned to Wray and began pursuing a career in the mental health and social services field.  It was as his job as a child welfare case worker that his met and began dating his future wife, Robin.  They began a life together and were married a couple of years later.  He then went on to achieve a master’s in social work from the University of Denver.  From there he went on to become the Director of Human Services and continued on that path throughout his career.

Dave welcomed his first child Kiersen in 2007.  It was also this same year that he became a football coach for the Wray Eagles.  Dave became an avid golfer at this time as well.  He then welcomed his second child Reagan in 2010.

Dave is preceded in death by his father Jimmie, his grandmother Sue, and brother-in-law Drake.  He is survived by his wife, Robin, and his two children Kiersen and Reagan, his mother Judy, his brothers Jim and wife Kelli, and Josh, all of Wray; his Aunt Jaymie and Uncle Jerry of Globe, Arizona.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.  He will be missed by many friends and colleges.
