David Kirk Carson, born in December 1952 in Wray, Colorado, passed away on November 14, 2024, in Johnstown, Colorado, due to congestive heart failure.
David was born to Jack L. and Helen V. Carson at the Wray Hospital. He was the third child following Gloria Carson Houser and Debi Carson Blue. Helen died of breast cancer after David’s 8th grade year from Wray Junior High School. David spent Grade 9 at the Wray High School and then his father married that summer and he and his dad and stepmom moved to Boulder where David attended Fairview High School for three years. He then graduated from The University of Colorado - Boulder in 1975 (B.A.), Denver Seminary in 1977 (M.A.), and Texas Tech University (PH.D.) in 1984. Although his counseling and academic career in counseling and family therapy was very important to him, David always tried to put family and friends first. He was a devout follower of Christ and found his way to often devote time to helping others as well as overseas missions in South Asia off and on over the years.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Cecyle Carson with whom he spent the past 31+ years. He also leaves behind his children, Seth A. Carson and Sanya Andersen-Vie, as well as Sanya’s husband Sean and their two children, Will and Allie. Also remaining are his three stepchildren, Farah, Brock, and Shena and their families. In addition, Dave’s extended family includes his stepmom Peni, his half-brother Jason, wife Deb, and two children, Jackson and Madison. His family on the Carson and Rockwell side were a huge joy in his life.
Dave was an enthusiastic mountaineer, having climbed a number of Colorado high peaks and trekked extensively in the Himalayas. His passion for the outdoors was catching, and he had countless adventures to remember with his hiking and climbing companions. In fact, he often said that other than family and loved ones his two passions in life were “music and mountains”.
Dave’s life was full of love, meaning, and fulfillment. He is deeply grateful to God for his time spent on this earth as well as his time in eternity with his mom, dad, other loved ones, and the Lord of heaven and earth.
