David Joe Bush was born October 11, 1932 in a sod house northeast of Haigler, Nebraska to Oren and Allie (Porter) Bush. To this union four children were born; Don, Dale, Dorothy and the youngest, Dave.
David attended District 42 school in Haigler from 1st - 8th grades in a one room country school. All four of the Bush children graduated from Haigler High School with Davie graduating in 1950. Dave decided to make farming and cattle ranching his lifelong trade. He was proud that his four children, Edward Joe, Richard Dean, Patricia Kay and Alan David were also graduates of Haigler High School.
David married Dorothy Graf on November 23, 1974. They lived on the family farm for 23 years. Dave and Dorothy expanded the operation when they planted 7,000 Christmas trees. They provided transportation for many families to select and cut down the perfect Christmas tree and also sold decorated evergreen wreaths. Santa Claus entertained the children and there was always plenty of candy, cookies and warm drinks for all.
When Dave and Dorothy retired, they moved into Wray. They enjoyed the "snowbird" life and would spend 3 months of the year in Texas where they met many friends. They also traveled the country and stayed active with family and friends until health complications kept them close to home.
