Cleta M. (Speicher) Sloan

Cleta Marie (Speicher) Sloan was born to Harold Vernon Speicher & Velma Norene (Day) Speicher

on June 15, 1937 in rural Yuma County, CO and she entered her heavenly home, peacefully, at AltaVita

Assisted Living in Longmont, CO on March 24, 2018, of Polycystic Kidney Disease.

She was the 2nd of 5 children, Colleen, Verlene, Delwyn & Venetta. Many fond childhood memories

were made, while living on her family's farm. She attended a few one-room schools, in Rural Yuma

County, attended all four years of high school at Holyoke High School, graduating in 1955.

She lived in Greeley for a year & moved to Burlington in 1956. While working at Burlington Hospital

selling insurance, she met Robert "Bob" Sloan in 1958. They were married December 6, 1959. On

December 19, 1960, their son Gary Lee was born. They moved to Wray in 1962. On February 8, 1963,

their son Galen Ray was born. When her boys were young, Cleta was able to stay home with her boys

and babysat several children from the neighborhood and community. She started at Wray Community

District Hospital, as a nurse's aide, in 1969. On March 25, 1971, their daughter Vonda Kay was born.

During her 29 years at the hospital, her compassion and dedication touched many lives in Wray and

the surrounding community, until she retired in 1998. For 54 years, Bob and Cleta lived in the same

home, where they raised their family, until they moved to Longmont, in February 2018 to be closer to

family.

Cleta was a very loving mother & her children were her pride and joy. Her faith in God got her

through everything in her life. She was very active in First Christian Church, enjoyed playing the piano,

singing, cutting and styling family and friends' hair, crocheting, knitting, & quilting. She was a terrific

cook & role model, being selfless in helping family and friends a lot. She will be deeply missed by all.

Cleta was preceded in death by her parents, sister Colleen James, brother Del Speicher, sister-in-law

Carolyn Hansen, brother-in-law, H.D. James, & nephews Ronald Hansen, Thomas Speicher, & Ronald

Speicher.

She is survived by her husband Bob of Longmont, children: Gary (Margie) of Dodge City, KS, Galen

(Charlotte) of Longmont, Vonda Ioan & significant other Doug Hartman of Longmont, sisters: Verlene

(Gary) Boden of Frederick & Nita (Tom) Shelden of Garden City, KS, step-mother Ruth Speicher of

Central City, NE, step-siblings: Frank (Pam) Smith of Wauneta, NE, Sylvia (Charles) Huskey of Omaha,

NE, Joyce (Ron) Bley of Wauneta, NE, & Millie (John) Creutzberg of Central City, NE, sisters-in-law:

Becky Speicher of Russell, KS & Virginia (Wayne) Hecht of Spring Lake, MI, brother-in-law John Hansen,

Jr. of Bethune, grandchildren: Joshua (Barbie) Sloan of Edmond, OK, Matthew (Jill) Sloan of White

Settlement, TX, Briana Sloan & significant other Jason Chavez of Denver, Kyla Sloan & significant other

Sean Smith of Longmont, great grandchildren: Levi Sloan of White Settlement, TX & Guthrie Sloan of

Edmond, OK, & another boy is due in May. Her uncle Lloyd Speicher of St. Louis, MO, and many

nephews, nieces, & cousins also survive her.

A Receiving of Family & Friends was held on Thursday March 29, 2018, 5:00pm – 7:00pm at

Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home, 427 Adams St., Wray, CO 80758.

The Funeral Service were held on Friday March 30, 2018 at 10:00am at United Methodist Church,

500 Blake St, Wray, CO 807058, with Pastors Ben Wentworth & Terry Douglas officiating.
