Chuck Joe Spelts was born 1950,2,6 and passed away January 8 th 2017 at the Greeley Hospital at the age of 66. Chuck was born in Wray, Colorado to Albert and Mrytle (Spelts) Neitz. When Chuck got older his Uncle, Alfred and wife Olive adopted him and his brother Larry Spelts. Chuck grew up in Eckley and when older, Chuck and his dad brought a well drilling company which they named Spelts Well and Supply and ran it until they closed in the 80’s.
February 21, 1979 Chuck married Lois (Newton) Spelts. They had 4 children, Thomas, Jessica, Christina, and Chester.
You rarely found Chuck in a bad mood, always smiling and cracking jokes. He enjoyed helping others work on vehicles, working on his grandson John’s go carts, and helping add on the daughter Christina’s house. Sometimes he couldn’t do a lot but he made an excellent boss. His pride and joy was the grandchildren. He loved to do all sorts of things with them (including sneaking them candy when a parent said “later”). Out of all the activities he kept himself busy with his favorite was fishing with the kids. He never got upset with the little things like constant casting or breaking the fishing lines. He had a lot of patience.
Chuck was on the Fire Department for 30 years. He started going out to the fire calls at the age of 15. When celebrating Eckley Old Settlers he spent weeks up there helping prepare for all the people coming and wouldn’t leave until it was all over with and cleaned up. The Eckley Fire Department decided to host a Christmas Tradition which consisted of Santa Delivering bags of candy to all the houses in the community, Chuck enjoyed being Santa so he could see all the smiles on the kids’ faces. Chuck worked several jobs around Yuma County. He worked for Bill Nesbitt, Myers Seed Cleaning, J-W Operating, and his last job was Monfort.
Chuck was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend to all he knew. He is going to be deeply missed by all he impacted.
