Carolyn "Betty" Smith, 75 was born October 4, 1942 in Helena, Alabama, the eleventh child of John & Ethel (Brown) Martin. She passed away January 23, 2018 at the Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colorado.
Betty was married to Gerald Smith and to this union two children were born, daughter, Susan Walker and John Smith; living in Kansas City, MO for approximately thirty-five years. She worked as a Union Representative in Kansas City, later moving to Haigler, Nebraska for a short time as a home care taker. In 2000, she moved to Holyoke, Colorado where she worked as a substitute teacher for the Holyoke School District. She also worked at the Golden Plains Motel for a time. She loved her garden, flowers and animals.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John & Ethel; two brothers, John, Jr. and James; three sisters, Lucille, Dorothy and Faye; three brothers & sisters-in-law, Sid Smith, Wendel Smith & wife, Ramona, Stanton & wife, Dorothy; Lois Lakely & husband, Bobby, and Elizabeth Myer & husband, Gerald.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald, daughter, Susan Walker & husband, Steve, son, John Smith; two step-daughters, Debbie Tidwell & husband, Rusty and Verna MacQueen & husband, John; three brothers, Jack Martin & wife, Marie; Calvin Martin and Ruel Martin; two sisters, Bobby Shifflet and Eva May Nix; one brother-in-law, Robert Smith & wife, Sharon; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Bradford & husband, Walter, Patricia Warren & husband, Leonard, and Bonnie Smith; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
No services and cremation was requested. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Haigler Cemetery in Haigler, Nebraska. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
