Carmen Lea (Blankenship) Smith

CARMEN LEA (BLANKENSHIP) SMITH, 40 born December 18, 1972 in Newton, Kansas to Charles and Marie (Ramsey) Blankenship, joining her sister, Sheila Marie. Carmen attended school in the Burlington and Idalia school district and graduated from Idalia in 1992.

Carmen married Jason Smith September 5, 2000 and together they raised three boys. Carmen grew up in the country and raised her boys the same. Carmen had a deep seated love for country and family, dedicating her life to her family.

Carmen left this world on April 7, 2013 after a four year battle with leukemia. Preceding her in death was her father, Charles Blankenship “Her Hero!”

She is survived by her mother, Marie Blankenship, Sheila, husband, Jason Smith and sons, Zack Smith, Gavin Klie, and Jeffrey Smith, several in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Carmen was loved and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado with Rev. Harold Jackson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at the Kirk Cemetery in Kirk, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Carmen L. Smith Memorial Fund, c/o Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home, 427 Adams Street, Wray, Colorado 80758.  Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
