Betty Jean McGregor Woods passed away on Sunday August 4, 2024 at Hillcrest Care Center with her family by her side.
Betty Jean was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on September 1, 1929, to Hazel and Lawrence McGregor. They lived there on a farm until her mother died when she was 4 years old. She then moved into her grandmother and grandfather’s home with her aunt on their farm.
Betty Jean went to a small country school until 9th grade and then moved to Hutchinson to finish school in town.
Betty Jean met her sweetheart Jack Woods in Hutchinson,they dated through high school and they got married after she graduated from high school in 1948.
They made their home in Hutchinson and in 1950 they had twin girls, Jan Lee and Joan Lynn. Jan Lee died at birth. In 1953 Julie Lanette was born in Denver Colorado where they made their home training and racing horses. Later they had a son Jeff Dean Woods, born in Denver Colorado in 1960.
They had a great life together, traveling and training race horses until Jack’s death in Oklahoma City in 1995. Betty Jean and Joan then moved back home to be with family in Wray.
Betty Jean is survived by her daughter Joan Woods of Wray, daughter Julie and husband Dave Keeler of Wray, and son Jeff and wife Julie Woods of Elizabeth Colorado. Betty Jean is blessed with 4 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Betty Jean will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and her strong spirit and strength.
