Barry D Alexander

d. January 28, 2014

Barry Alexander, 57, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his family and friends. Barry was born March 19, 1956, to Carroll and Harriet B. (Willett) Alexander in Superior, Nebraska. Going through school he was a seven time letterman in football and wrestling for Superior High School, along with finishing 5th in the AQHA National Finals in the cutting, and 6th in the heading.

After graduation from Superior High School, Barry attended UNL before going on to pursue his career as a horse trainer, where he had two more top five finishes at the AQHA World show in the heading and heeling. Barry moved to Colorado and started training cutting horses in the early 1990’s. After twelve years he had trained and showed over 52 individual horses, averaging over $96,000.00 in Life Time Earnings, and two Appaloosa World Championships.

Barry was a hardworking man, he always provided for his family. He was a great teacher and talented horseman. Barry saw the best in everyone and never hesitated to help someone in need. He had a way of bringing out the positive in all situations, telling “jokes” regardless of the surroundings, and making people smile. He loved his family and cherished his friendships. Barry was the best, most proud Dad and Grandpa.

Barry passed away in January 2014, 6 miles into Colorado, close to both states that he loved and had so many of his wonderful memories.

Barry is survived by his son, Chad; son, Chance and his wife, Niki; daughter, Brett; daughter, Ashley and her husband, Corey; three grandchildren, Austin, Jaycie and Taylor; and three brothers, Gene, Lee, and Don.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Rev. Norman Stott officiating. Interment was held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Laird, Colorado.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Plains, P.O. Box 365, Wray, Colorado 80758.
