Barbara Joyce Schauer
July 18, 1933 — March 13, 2017
Barbara Joyce Schauer was born on July 18, 1933 in Wray, Colorado to Otto Ivan Lohman and Sylvia Pearl (Bullard). She passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 83.
Barbara attended and graduated from the Wray school system before marrying Alfred Frederick Schauer in 1950. They had two children, Debbra Sue (born 1953) of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Michael David (born 1958) of Wichita, Kansas. Barbara and Alfred lived and worked on the Schauer farm in St. Francis, Kansas until moving to Wray in 1954.
Barbara worked various jobs before being employed by the USDA where she remained until she retired after 31 years. After her retirement from the AG office she went to work with Alfred at Schauer printing until they sold their business in 2004.
Barbara was very active in the community, worked with the Wray Alumni Association, sang in the Calvary Lutheran Church Choir, and was a member of the Miriam Guild. She had many hobbies and enjoyed knitting clothes, cross stitching, making greeting cards and beaded jewelry, water exercise, and collecting Precious Moments. She also looked forward to Friday night supper club with Alfred and many of their dearest friends.
Barbara didn't know a stranger, loved meeting new people, and cherished her many, many friendships.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Ivan and Pearl, her sister, Alice Shade and brother, Dallas Lohman. She is survived by husband, Alfred, sister, Gloria Challis of Burlington, sister-in-law, Pauline Lohman of Wray, sister-in-law, Esther Tiff, daughter, Debbra and husband, Rick, son, Mike and wife, Jerri, grandsons, Lucas Schauer and Scott Ritchey, granddaughters, Brianne Russell and Abby Dickerson, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
We will dearly miss our beautiful, caring angel. God Bless you, Barbara.
A Receiving of Friends & Family will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home, 427 Adams Street, Wray, Colorado 80758.
A Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 518 Dexter Street, Wray, Colorado with Pastor Tim Davis officiating. Private Family Interment. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church or Hillcrest Care Center. Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
