Barbara Dee Bowland

Barbara passed away on November 11th at The Doctors Hospital in Laredo, TX due to complications with pneumonia.
Barbara was born to Burleu and Francis (Osborn} Wickizer in Brush, CO on Sept 20th 1943. She spent her early years in Brush, until she was placed in several foster homes around the area. When Barbara was a young teen she lived in a girls home in Denver. Barbara was 17 when she was finally placed with Molly and Lotus Wingfield, who had a ranch south of Eckley. There she found the love she so needed, and her life changed for the better. That fall a cowboy came to help move cows; he stole her shoe and wouldn't give it back until she kissed him.
Barbara graduated from Wray High school in 1961. She married that cowboy, Dale Lightle on June 18th of that year in Kirk Colorado. To this union three daughters were born Edie, Vicky and April. During their marriage they lived and worked the ranch life in Kansas,Wyoming,Nebraska, and Colorado.
On December 31st 1982 she married James (Jim} Bowland in Wray,CO. They started their life together in Wray. At that time Jim was farming and Barb would help whenever she could, often running the rakes when it was time to put up hay. Barb and Jim enjoyed fishing together and went many places in search of the best lake for fish. Their searches lead them to Zapata, TX where they made their home for 18 years. Besides fishing Barb loved to read, garden and do yarn crafts. While in Texas she decided to go to college and earned her Associates Degree. Her favorite things about Texas were the cherished citrus trees that her and Jim planted and cared for and of course the Blue Bonnet flowers.
She is survived by her three daughters Edie and husband Richard Wacker of Yuma, CO.,Vicky and husband Bill Wilcox of Eads,CO.,April and husband Mike Gibson of Cheraw CO. also surviving are Jims children,James (Chuck) and wife Joyce of Longmont, CO. Randy and wife Rita of Otis CO.and daughter DeeAnn and husband Casey Stults of Vernon CO,.She has 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Levi Witte and wife Angela, and their children Jayden and Cameron of Vernon CO,Danny Witte and wife Jessica and their daughter Lyla, Step grandson Jeff Wacker and wife Carrie and their daughter Megan, Jennifer Delzeit and children Gabriel, Danielle and Braden of Horton KS. Deena Seifert and husband Chris of Hutchinson, KS. Dale Delzeit of Horton, KS., Lisa Delzeit and daughter Ariel of Winona, KS. Ty Gibson and son Jasper, of Kimball NE., Travis (Tuff) Gibson of Cheraw, and Dalley Gibson. Jim's grandchildren Ryan, Callie, Melissa, Allyson, Cassie, Zach, Ben, and Tim. Eight, great grand children. Her best friend, Jeanie Hassell of Zapata TX., her church family in Zapata, and other friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, James D. Bowland, her parents and two brothers, Walter Wickizer and Ernest Wickizer.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 16th from 5-7 pm. A Celebration of her life was held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 17th at Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Timothy Davis officiating.
Schmidt-Jones Funeral Home was in charged of arrangements.
